Beetle's sold since August 1967 have often been seen as the poorer relative of the earlier Beetle, especially in the United States which is where all the 'fat chick' jokes originally started! Other people think that later model Beetles, as they are cheaper and parts are in more plentiful supply, make excellent 'starter' cars before moving onto an earlier model. While we agree that later model year beetles make excellent first cars, we think that they deserve as much attention as the earlier models. Sure, an Oval window Beetle is undoubtedly nicer than a tatty and rusty 1303, but it is the lack of care often shown to later models which only helps to perpetuate the myth that such cars aren't deserving of the lavish restorations and modifications carried out on earlier models. No one can deny that Late Bugs are more plentiful and cheaper than earlier models, but the plentiful supply of cheap and cheerful cars won't last forever. It seems that every week, cars are being broken for parts on internet forums and auction sites all round the world. Hopefully by looking in the various Galleries on the site, the Reader's Rides section of the forum and at the various Blogs on the forum you can be motivated to show that extra bit of care to your Late Bug and refuse to accept badly repaired and modified cars, which as things stand are only destined for the scrap heap! If there are any errors in any of the articles within the site, please let us know, and if we have used a photo or article that you would like crediting for, or if you wish to request that we remove it please let us know. Various contributors have 'collected' photos and articles for many years, and trying to establish the original source has proved to be an impossible task. Our aim is to create the biggest and most useful resource for late model Beetles, and we hope that you will assist us where possible. Thank you for reading, and we hope you enjoy viewing the site! |
